Best Pulled April Fool’s Pranks This Year
Apr 20Ah, April Fool’s Day, it may have come and gone, but it is the one day out of the year when it is considered (possibly) socially acceptable to deceive, prank and even trick our friends and family. For many, this is just another day of the year, but for some, it’s a once-a-year opportunity to indulge your inner jokester.
Here you have some of the best ever April Fool’s Day tricks, hijinks, and pranks that happened this year.
DIY April Fool’s Day Pranks
The Insect Lamp
So this one is pretty easy. All you do is purchase plastic insects-cockroaches work well and affix them to the inside of a lampshade. Then, when your unsuspecting family member turns on a lamp, he or she will be terrified of the “insect” lurking there. This trick most likely triggered a scream or at least a gasp of fear and horror this year.
Plastic Wrap Over the Toilet
This one is a classic yet never disappoints. Carefully wrap plastic cling wrap over the bowl of the toilet but under the seat. You can see where this is going. Be careful not to forget that you’ve wrapped the toilet, however, or the joke will be on you.
The Chicken Soup Shower
Ok, so imagine bathing in chicken broth. Now, imagine that you didn’t intend to bathe in chicken broth and it happens anyway. You can make this a reality by taking an unwrapped cube of chicken bouillon, unscrewing your shower head, inserting the bouillon into the shower head and waiting. Your family member or roommate will experience an unforgettable shower. Beef bouillon works too!
Large Scale Pranks
So far we’ve discussed some great DIY pranks that have been hauled out for April Fool’s Day, but in an age of social media and the 24-hour news cycle, a number of companies and public figures have recently fooled many of us. Here’s a rundown of some of the best public pranks pulled for April Fool’s Day 2017.
Hamburger Toothpaste
Fast food giant Burger King announced that they would be introducing toothpaste flavored like their signature Whopper burger. It turns out that this story is a “whopper,” indeed.
Amazon Introduces “Petlexa”
Amazon’s Alexa allows you to speak commands and order directly from Amazon. Recently, Amazon introduced “Petlexa,” a variation on Alexa that allegedly understands what your pets have to say. Finding out this was just a joke has been a real letdown for pet lovers who have wanted just such a translator for years.
George Takei Announces A Bid For Congress
Several popular websites announced that George Takei of Star Trek fame is seeking to run for Congress. Takei has been an outspoken advocate for gay marriage and equality and an internet celebrity in recent years. Many were disheartened to learn that this was only a cruel April Fool’s Day joke, as his many followers would love to see him in government.
“Crème Only” Oreos
So this prank was not perpetrated by Nabisco, the owner of Oreos but by an average Joe. Still, the idea of Oreos with just the insides dubbed the “All Stuf Oreo” seems like it could work for the average consumer. You can probably get the same product by whipping Crisco vegetable shortening with sugar.
Coffee-Mate In New Coffee Flavor
Many American consumers enjoy Coffee-Mate creamer. It’s available in a variety of flavors, some of them seasonal. But for April 2017, Coffee-Mate announced a new flavor: Coffee. Flavor your coffee with more coffee. Coffee addicts must have been crestfallen when they realized this was only a prank.
From classic do-it-yourself pranks to widespread deceptions, April Fool’s Day really is a laughing matter.
