True story, this happened to me.
True story, this happened to me.
Oct 22I had a new credit card and had forgotten to sign it. Back in olden times, it was pretty much standard procedure to compare the signature on the back of the card to the signature on the receipt signed in front of the salesclerk. So when I presented my new card at the cashier for payment, it was a problem that the card did not have a signature on the back. The cashier handed the card back to me as unacceptable.
Immediately I borrowed the cashier’s pen and signed the back of the credit card, IN FRONT OF THE CASHIER. I now represented the credit card to the cashier. The cashier runs my credit card and presents the receipt for me to sign. She then takes the freshly signed receipt and carefully compares the signature on the receipt to the signature on the back of the credit card. When the cashier had concluded that the two signatures were a match she completed the transaction, gave me the merchandise and the receipt and moved on to the next customer.
Did it ever occur to her that the two signatures were both signed in front of her and would pretty much have to match? Go figure.
